Baclofen

General instructions:

This medicine is prescribed for your current illness, so do not use it in similar cases or recommend it to others.

If the symptoms of your disease become severe, be sure to inform your doctor. In case of any side effect, be sure to consult your doctor, whether it is mentioned in this instruction sheet or not.

Description:

Baclofen belongs to a group of medicines called anti-spasticity agents, which are used to relax muscles.

Baclofen is used to reduce and relieve the excessive tension in your muscles (spasms) occurring in various illnesses such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, cerebrovascular accidents, spinal cord diseases and other nervous system disorders.

Dosage & Indications:

Always take Baclofen tablets exactly as your doctor has told you to.

You should take the tablets with food or a drink of milk.

Contraindications:

are allergic to baclofen or any of the other ingredients of this medicine such as lactose.

have a stomach ulcer

Breast-feeding & Pregnancy:

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Drug Interactions:

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, This is because Baclofen Tablets can affect the way some medicines work.

Its necessary check with your doctor if you are taking any of the following:

  • other medicines to relax muscles e.g tizanidine
  • antid epressants such as clomipramine, amitriptyline or lithium
  • medicine to help lower blood pressure
  • Other drugs which also affect the kidney, e.g. ibuprofen used in arthritis or pain.
  • levodopa and carbidopa for Parkinson’s Disease
  • medicines which slow down the nervous system, e.g. promethazine, temazepam, opiates for pain relief such as morphine and anticonvulsants.

Warnings:

This medicine may make you sleepy. If this happens, Do not drive or use tools or machines.

Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor.

Avoid consuming products containing alcohol duing treatment with this drug.

Dosing Considerations:

Talk to your doctor, or pharmacist or nurse before taking this medicine if you have any of the following:

have a history of alcoholism or you drink alcohol to excess or you  have a history of drug abuse or dependence.harming or killing themselves or have tried to kill themselves. depression or a mental disorder, especially if you are taking lithium, liver or kidney disease, breathing difficulties or lung disease, high blood pressure, stomach ulce, diabetes, recently suffered from a stroke, epilepsy, urinary retention.

Baclofen tablets are not suitable for use in children under 33 kg body weight.

If you are due to have an operation requiring a general anaesthetic, make sure you tell the doctor that you are taking baclofen.

Side Effects:

Like all medicines this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The following side effects may happen with this medicine.

If any of the symptoms become troublesome, or if you notice anything else not mentioned here, please go and see your doctor.

Tiredness, sleepiness, nausea (feeling sick).

  • Excessively weak limbs or feeling tired and exhausted, aching

 muscles

  • Headache, dizziness or light-headedness
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Sleeplessness
  • Mood changes, confusion, hallucinations or nightmares
  • Dry mouth
  • Problems with their eyes
  • Unsteadiness, trembling or other problems with muscle control
  • Low blood pressure (fainting)
  • Stomach problems including retching, vomiting, constipation and diarrhoea
  • Excessive sweating, rash
  • Increased need to pass urine or pain on passing urine.

Storage:

Store below 30 °C and protect from light and moisture. Keep out of sight and reach of children.

Dosage Form:

Baclovel® 10: Each tablet contain 10 mg Baclofen

Baclovel® 25: Each tablet contain 25 mg Baclofen
